What has to be done
In very simple terms, in order to be found through a Search Engine, you need to:
- Make sure your website contains plenty of good quality, relevant material, which accurately reflects your business
- Submit your site to the appropriate Engines, so they can include your details in their databases
- Allow time (1 week up to 3 months or more) for them to visit you and analyse your site
- It sounds simple, but it takes skill, experience, patience and perserverance
Can I do it myself?
- If you are PC literate, and are comfortable with HTML, the answer is YES
- You will need a good software tool to do submission (it is almost impractical to manually submit to all of the Engines), and software to monitor your rankings
- The software used by many professionals, which does much more than submission (analysis, advice, assistance, ranking, reporting) and which receives outstanding reviews from everyone who uses it, is Web Position Gold - brilliant stuff and easy to use!
- Another really excellent suite of software for search engine optimization is SEO Studio which provides support for all the tasks you may need to undertake to improve and monitor your positions in the search engines.

- You will need to learn a lot about Search Engines, what they look for, what they won't tolerate, how they assess your website and even how frequently you can re-submit your website
